LET’S SAVE TREES AND SAVE THEE

Nueva Vizcaya is our land. Have you ever wondered how we were able to survive numerous catastrophes? Have you ever wondered how we were kept safe in times of calamities?

Trees.

Nueva Vizcaya is a province known for its agricultural economy and topography. It is enclosed by North Luzon’s three large mountain ranges. The province is approximately 79% mountainous and has an elevation ranging from 200 to 2,920 meters above sea level.  It is generally mountainous with some valleys and plains. Nueva Vizcaya is bordered by the Cordillera mountains on the west, Sierra Madre on the east and Caraballo mountains on the south. Everywhere you go in the province, how far your eyes can reach, all you can see are the bountiful presence of trees.

Trees play an important role in the environment as it is a home for numerous animals and creatures. They are also the primary source of cleaning and refreshing air. They continuously give off oxygen and absorb carbon dioxide. This cycle is very significant for us, humans, animals and the environment. They also filter and intercept airborne particles, harmful chemicals, toxic gases and other pollutants. Moreover, trees hold the land. Its roots tightly hug a large area of land reducing the risk of erosion, weathering and landslide that could harm and bury people. They also provide us shadow and cool air that is more comfortable than any other artificial cooling sources. Trees are effective in breaking the force of wind that is very obliging in times of typhoon. They can reduce the speed of wind making the typhoon produce less impact on the area. They also absorb large amounts of water during rain that helps in avoiding the occurrence of heavy floods. Furthermore, trees also play a significant role in our health. They can aid in preventing us from getting respiratory illnesses through lowering the dust level and pollutants in the air.

It is undeniable that trees are something that we can’t live without. However, in Nueva Vizcaya, records of Illegal Logging have been alarming. People kept on continuing the excessive logging activities in the province. The uncontrolled practice may lead to the loss of a large number of trees. Yes, you can cut a tree in a minute and plant another one but take note that a tree grows and matures for years.

What would happen if the mountains that were once covered in green and swaying trees turn into a dry and cracked mound of land? We can never experience again the benefits of having trees.

Typhoons can freely hit the land, devastate our homes and destroy our lives. Landslide can keep on occurring thus killing many people unaware. Flash floods can spontaneously rise drowning a lot of people and animals. Respiratory diseases can easily infect us. Our lives will never be the same without trees. Our lives will become harder than today. That is why, the urge to keep the trees, to let them grow and increase in numbers, and to plant more of them is getting stronger and stronger.

It is high time that we cease illegal logging. It is even a must to end our selfish ambition and greed and start to think what is the best for the greater majority. We need trees and the future need them too. They play a major role in our lives, in the animals and the environment. We need to help one another survive through planting trees. Hand- in-hand we can collaborate and care for the them. Now is the opportunity to change and transform, we need to take a stand now before the time is up. It is time for you to sign this petition and take part in saving the trees. We, Novo Vizcayanos, shall never let trees leave Nueva Vizcaya for good. It is time to accept the fact that we cannot live without trees. It is time to put an end to illegal logging.

As ceasing illegal logging can save trees, and saving trees can save thee.

Even one sign in this petition can help. Sign this petition now before it's too late.
