Just to clarify: we are asking DOC for improved access to Taronui over PUBLIC land. Owners of private properties have the right to put up gates if they want privacy. However, the road to Taronui is on a Crown owned conservation strip which can be realigned where it veers onto privately owned land in two places. The Taronui Recreation Reserve and the strip leading to it belong to the people of New Zealand/Aotearoa.

We are also asking councils around the country to ensure that, when developers of coastal land apply for subdivision, they require access to the coastline as a condition of consent so that public access is ensured.
