Deny Susan Smith Parole — Justice for Michael and Alexander Smith
The Issue
Deny Susan Smith Parole — Justice for Michael and Alexander Smith
A Petition to the South Carolina Board of Paroles and Pardons
On October 25, 1994, two innocent little boys, 3-year-old Michael Smith and 14-month-old Alexander Smith, lost their lives in a tragedy that devastated their family and shocked the nation.
Their mother, Susan Smith, initially told investigators that a stranger had taken her vehicle with her children inside. For nine days, the country watched, prayed, and hoped the boys would be found alive.
The truth was heartbreaking.
Susan Smith eventually confessed that she had driven her vehicle into John D. Long Lake in South Carolina with Michael and Alexander strapped inside.
In 1995, she was convicted of murdering both of her sons and sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole.
For more than three decades, their father, David Smith, has carried the unimaginable grief of losing both of his children. He has publicly opposed Susan Smith’s release.
Michael and Alexander deserve to be remembered. Their lives mattered, and their story should never be forgotten.
As Susan Smith approaches another parole hearing, we, the undersigned, respectfully ask the South Carolina parole board to deny her request for release.
We recognize that parole decisions must be made according to the law and the evidence before the board. We ask that the seriousness of these crimes, the devastating loss of two young lives, and the lasting impact on their loved ones receive full consideration.
This petition is independently organized by concerned members of the public. It is not presented as an official petition from David Smith or his family.
We stand in remembrance of Michael and Alexander Smith and in compassion for the family who continues to grieve them.
Please add your signature if you believe Susan Smith should remain incarcerated.
For Michael. For Alexander. Never forgotten.
