Request Update & Transparency from Supervisor Barger

We need to pivot our focus to Supervisor Kathryn Barger. While the developer moves forward, the County holds the power over the project's funding.

Please email Supervisor Barger and her planning deputy, Anish Sar, with these key points:

Demand an Update: Ask for a status report on her open letter to Abode Communities regarding their intervention in the Briggs/Foothill development.

Scale the Project Down: The current 80-unit proposal is too dense for this location. Funding should be withheld until the size is reduced to fit the community character.

Prioritize Fire Safety: This is a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone. We demand a formal evacuation and wildfire behavior study before any county funding is approved.

Protect Infrastructure: Our aging pipes and failing water systems cannot handle the strain of a massive new development without risking further local "explosions" and flooding.

Fix the Parking Ratio: A 1:1 parking ratio is insufficient and will create dangerous traffic conditions on a blind corner.

The Ask: "Please provide an update on your open letter to Abode Communities. Will you commit to withholding LCDA funding until this project is scaled to a size that is safe for our fire-risk zone and compatible with our infrastructure?"

DRAFTED LETTER (COPY/PASTE)

Subject: URGENT: Update on Abode Communities Open Letter – Briggs/Foothill Development

Dear Supervisor Barger,

As a concerned resident and signer of the Briggs/Foothill development petition, I am writing to formally request an update regarding your recent open letter to Abode Communities.

While we appreciate your office’s attention to this matter, we remain deeply concerned that the current 80-unit proposal is dangerously out of scale for our neighborhood. We urge you to withhold LA County Development Authority (LCDA) funding until the following critical safety and infrastructure issues are resolved:

• Project Scale: An 80 unit building on a blind corner with limited parking is a safety hazard.

• Fire Safety: We require a formal evacuation and wildfire behavior study, as we are in a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone.

• Infrastructure: Our aging water infrastructure is already failing; this project cannot be allowed to add further strain.

• Parking: The 1:1 parking ratio is insufficient

Will you commit to withholding county funding until this project is scaled down to a size that is safe and compatible with our community?

We look forward to your timely response and a clear status update on your communication with the developer.

Sincerely,
