ABOVE - the pink boundary outlines the 2-acre block where a Palm Beach developer proposes covering the entire land mass (except the lower left corner with the historic home) with structures ranging from a 7-story hotel to a 5 floors "amenities/special events hall. There would be NO BREAKS INBETWEEN BUILDINGS ALL ONE STRUCTURE - a monolith. So large it does not fit the scale of the neighborhood or the density and height restrictions.

----

In 24 hours, Tampa City Council was set to vote on the proposed Magnolia hotel complex request to encroach upon our residential, historic neighborhood. But the Palm Beach developer and his local agents have requested a postponement until January 15, 2026.

The postponement vote is Thursday evening. I am told to expect council to grant the delay.

Always looking to "make lemonade," that gives us time to hit our goal of 1,000 petition supporters.

SO PLEASE SHARE THIS PETITION AND THE FACT THAT:

You can SIGN THIS PETITION without living in the Hyde Park Spanishtown Creek Historic District.

In fact, SIGN to show Tampa’s leaders that you treasure the city's historic neighborhoods.

SIGN if you visit Hyde Park or drive Swann Avenue - you’re vested here.

SIGN if you have children attending Gorrie Elementary just a block from this proposed hotel complex that will be selling alcohol at the two restaurants, special events venues and a rooftop party pool and bar. Of if your kids go to Wilson Middle School just two blocks to the west.

SIGN  if you have witnessed too much overdevelopment in South Tampa.

SIGN  if you flooded during the hurricanes in 2024 (Debby, Helene, Milton) because this site flooded from bay surge waters. The same site where the proposed hotel complex is is also within the federal Coastal High Hazard Area - at high risk for bay surge flooding - totally different than the rainwater floods and uncontainable.

SIGN if you're tired to congested traffic and too many near misses as a driver, pedestrian or cyclist due to over-capacity roads.

SIGN if you value residential neighborhoods and understand walking 6 blocks to visit a restaurant in Hyde Park Village or 3 blocks north on boulevard to Babushka's is not too far to travel. WE DO NOT NEED A RESTAURANT, A HOTEL OR A BAR ON EVERY CORNER.
