Denieguen el megaproyecto del río Guabo // Reject the Guabo River megaproject
The Issue
Texto en español. English version below.

The Guabo River valley is home to forests, rivers and extraordinary wildlife within the Paso de la Danta Biological Corridor. Puente Pico proposes nearly 100 homes, a hotel and a commercial complex on land spanning both banks of the river. Road construction, tree felling and earthworks threaten to fragment habitats and carry sediment into the Guabo River, the Barú estuary and coastal waters. Protecting this valley means protecting our water, wildlife movement routes and the ecosystems our communities depend on.
123 local residents have already signed a petition opposing Puente Pico, submitted to SETENA, Costa Rica’s environmental assessment authority, by Coalición Floresta. They include three of the four community leaders whom the developer presented in its initial application as supporting the project. The community deserves to be heard and to participate in decisions about its territory. We call on SETENA to deny environmental approval for this megaproject and on the relevant authorities to protect the forest, the river and its biodiversity. Sign and share this petition to help us defend the Guabo valley and all who live there.
