Unfortunately this week will bring the last time three of our dementia groups will have their exceptional locality worker and team leader Kerryn delivering their wonderful groups. But groups are only the culmination of everything else all our locality workers do. Visiting people at home for those who can't leave their homes, supporting people living with dementia and their carers, helping with complicated paperwork, putting people in touch with other care and support services, or just to hold a hand at a funeral when they need to be with someone who understands.This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the support we receive.
The truth of the situation is that Alzheimer's Society are taking this away from us. Making some of the most experienced Hertswise staff redundant and saying everyone else has a choice to stay while removing some of the most important support they provide from their roles.
Unlike the musical there's going to be no warm fluffy ending. We'll never get these people back once they're gone no matter what the co-production consultation process comes up with. It's almost as if the Alzheimer's Society already knows exactly what it's going to do.
So let's keep the pressure on and make sure everybody's watching them.
