"Whenever I raise the Gay Village MCR, grief comes with it. But, to coin a phrase, One Last Time here's my reflection. The entire process of the Portland St SRF and its implications for the Gay Village remains shambolic. This week's council meetings and self-aggrandising tweets from local politicos have not changed my opinion on that, they have reinforced it. To push through a planning application without a publicly updated SRF, shows the SRF was just a sop, and the consultation was a sham. I feel insulted, and I am insulted that my time was wasted. That Manchester council does not understand that action flows from strategy and not the other way round shows a more fundamental flaw in how the organisation is run. This lack of understanding of process will hobble the city and shows a lack of seriousness + rigour. I still await a strategic and rigorous assessment of the LGBT presence in the Gay Village and the economic impact of Pride. Decisions are being taken on sentiment, and seeing the LGBT community as a colourful add-on, not as an explicit part of how the city functions". Via Loz Kaye, who has left Manchester after a decade of campaigning. The cultural reality of failures and inadequacy are something he is glad to have moved away from to become Artistic Director of More Music National Charity.
