The Friends of the Gay Village have shared with us their objections to the worst start planning application which threatens the area in the process, non-consultation and bad design. It Does not need to be anything long, but every objection helps - https://goo.gl/32T7mC "Due to the lack of consultation by the developers of 55 Portland Street, and given the Strategic Regeneration Framework remains unadopted due to feedback from community groups and individuals in the Gay Village, we have registered an objection with Manchester City Council to the planning application proceeding in it's current format. The comments for our objection are as follows; "Friends of Manchester's Gay Village (FOMGV) object to this planning application on the basis that the process surrounding the Strategic Regeneration Framework for Portland Street has not been completed, and therefore the feedback provided by multiple community groups has not been taken into account. Furthermore, FOMGV do not believe the developers have undertaken sufficient consultation to ensure the proposal integrates to the world famous LGBTQ+ community of Manchester's Gay Village. Finally, FOMGV believe the proposal does little to add value to the streetscape, the architecture is bland at best, it does not engage with the area or consider how it could promote the Gay Village and show support for the community (for example, rainbow lighting could be used in a similar way to Holiday Inn on Aytoun Street). We request that the developers consult with community groups, introduce elements to the design that show support for the Gay Village and resubmit a proposal that provides outstanding architecture worthy of a prime city centre location."
