Demand YouTube to Separate 'Shorts' into a Standalone App

The Issue

I am writing this petition on behalf of my family, friends, and countless others who are struggling with the addictive nature of YouTube's 'Shorts'. This feature, while entertaining, has become a source of concern for many. It's not just an issue for us; it affects millions across the globe.

'Shorts' is designed to keep viewers hooked with its endless stream of short videos. According to a study by Common Sense Media in 2019, teens spend an average of seven hours per day on entertainment media including online videos. The same study found that 57% of parents worry about their child becoming addicted to devices (Common Sense Media).

We believe that separating 'Shorts' from the main YouTube app and making it a standalone application will allow users better control over their viewing habits and help mitigate potential addiction issues.

By signing this petition, you are urging YouTube to take responsibility for the impact its features have on users’ screen time and overall well-being. We need your support in asking them to separate 'Shorts' into its own app so that we can choose when and how we engage with this content.
