Demand Wildlife Warning Signs on High-Risk Roads Across Central Coast and Lake Macquarie

The issue

Every day, native animals are being killed on our roads, sometimes right in front of drivers, and Hue Hue Road has become one of the deadliest. In just the past month alone, over 30 native animals, including kangaroos, wombats, echidnas, possums, wallabies and other native species, have been killed on Hue Hue Road alone. This does not even include the many deaths on other high-risk roads across the Central Coast and Lake Macquarie.

Despite this shocking toll, there are still no wildlife warning signs, no speed reminders and no visible action from local authorities. These roads are surrounded by bushland, known for heavy wildlife movement, yet drivers are left unaware, animals remain unprotected and the problem is only getting worse.

This is unacceptable and completely preventable. Protecting our native wildlife must be a priority, not an afterthought. Councils and MPs must act now to prevent more deaths and safeguard both animals and motorists.

Our wildlife cannot speak for themselves. We must speak for them.
