As an individual who spends approximately 7000 annually on OneDrive services, I've found myself at a disadvantage due to WhatsApp's limited backup options. WhatsApp primarily uses Google Cloud for backup, essentially coercing all its users to buy Google One membership to continue their regular activities. This takes place because WhatsApp's backup method fills the free storage on Google Drive, interfering with other processes like receiving mail.

This not only limits the freedom of choice but also requires additional investment from users already paying for cloud services like OneDrive, Dropbox, and others. An estimated 2 billion people use WhatsApp worldwide. Unfortunately, those like me who pay for different cloud services are pushed to shoulder another financial burden.

Our solution is simple: WhatsApp should allow its users to utilise alternate cloud platforms such as OneDrive for data backup. This course of action will not only provide more options to their users but also prevent the unnecessary costs tied to Google Cloud services.
