Demand Weidner Apartment Homes & Mike Teano Pay the Penalties Assigned to their Violations

Demand Weidner Apartment Homes & Mike Teano Pay the Penalties Assigned to their Violations
The Issue
As tenants of St. James Tower Apartments (Seattle, WA), we fought against the unfair practices of Weidner Investment Services Inc., also known as Weidner Apartment Homes (Kirkland, WA), and their representative, Mike Teano. We defended our rights in the face of illegal fees, intimidation, and blatant fraud. Weidner and Teano attempted to illegally raise our rent and charge us illegal month-to-month fees while preventing us from signing a new lease. Teano/Weidner refused to accept the undisputed rent payments until we paid the unlawful fees! They locked us out of the online resident portal preventing us from paying or viewing any rent or utilities. Then, they filed a baseless, frivolous, and malicious lawsuit to evict us and accused us of nonpayment!
We were lucky to have an honest judge in court, ruling in our favor in King County Washington Superior Court case No.24-2-19052-0, "Weidner Investment Services Inc..." The court found Mike Teano and Weidner Apartment Homes guilty on all counts regarding the violations that were presented in our filing. In fact, they can be heard in the court recording lying to the judge and being combative (some of that was scrubbed from the tape we were given). None of their arguments were valid and they knew this before going to court because they had the records all along.
Now, they are demanding the full amount of rent that they previously refused to accept and the utilities that have just been displayed to us without crediting us for the three months of rent that the violations that they've been found guilty of call for. They have not credited us for the court-ordered legal fees that they owe us, either.
Instead of complying with the law, they have actively refused to deduct the ordered costs and fines from our rent, effectively ignoring the verdict and continuing their patterns of legal violations and tenant abuse.
The failure of accountability is not just personal to us; If you order the unabridged version of the Court Hearing Recording directly from the court, you will hear Mike Teano state that he and Weidner don't follow these housing laws and that this illegal behavior is their usual practice (Scrubbed from the end of the hearing audio in the version our attorney gave us: www.knowyourlandlord.com ). If this is true, he has harmed many others besides us. He once stated that he has twenty years of property management experience!
The time for accountability is now. With this petition, we implore Mike Teano and Weidner Apartment Homes to fulfill their legal obligations, to pay the fines and costs they have been found guilty of by the court's verdict and are mandated by State and local laws. By doing so, they will be taking an essential step not only towards rectifying their wrongs against us but also toward fostering responsible and ethical landlord practices in Washington State. Please sign this petition to join our call for justice.
