The Issue

We experienced a terrifying and life-threatening malfunction in our Volvo C40 Recharge EV—one that could have ended in tragedy. While driving toward our home, the braking and steering systems failed simultaneously. The vehicle surged forward even though the brake pedal was fully depressed. All dashboard lights and warnings began flashing—indicating critical failures of the braking, steering, and other systems. The car would not turn off, and Volvo’s “emergency support” failed us.

The situation was extremely dangerous and could have had a tragic or fatal outcome if it had happened in traffic. Volvo’s emergency assistance line failed to provide a solution and eventually transferred me to the police. The vehicle remained powered on and unresponsive for over 18 hours until it was finally towed to a dealership.

I am deeply concerned that this defect could happen again to me or to another driver, with potentially deadly consequences. Volvo needs to take immediate action to investigate and rectify this issue in their C40 Recharge EVs to prevent any future mechanical failures that put lives at risk. This is not an isolated incident; numerous reports have surfaced from other users encountering similar issues, highlighting a systemic problem that requires urgent attention from Volvo headquarters.

Volvo must initiate a comprehensive recall of all affected C40 Recharge models, conduct an in-depth investigation to identify the root causes of these failures, and communicate transparently with all vehicle owners. Enhanced training for emergency support teams is also needed to ensure they can provide effective and immediate assistance in crisis situations.

We are calling on Volvo to prioritize the safety of its customers by taking responsibility and action before more lives are endangered. Join us in urging Volvo to address these alarming defects and ensure their vehicles are safe for everyone. Sign this petition to demand accountability and prompt corrective measures from Volvo.
