Demand TV Licensing to Renew Discounted Fees for St Crispin Retirement Village Residents
The Issue
I am a pensioner, a resident of St Crispin Retirement Village, severely affected by the recent disappointment delivered by TV Licensing. They have refused the application for the renewal of our discounted TV licence fee, claiming we're contravening the Licensing act. We vehemently reject this claim as it is founded on tenuous grounds. Our struggle is magnified by these numerous additional costs we're being forced to incur despite our retirement, the vulnerable position we are in, and the modest means at our disposal.
We're not alone in our plight. In fact, we join a staggering number of 4.46 million UK households led by an elderly individual aged 75 and above, as reported in 2019 by the Office for National Statistics (ONS). Sadly, many are at risk of losing their discounted license - a consequential loss that may contribute significantly to the increasing financial stress on retired and elderly individuals.
This issue extends beyond just our retirement village, it's a question of the welfare of retired and elderly individuals nationwide. The consequences of these unaffordable fee increases could lead to isolation and decreased quality of life for those who depend on television as their main form of entertainment and companionship.
In light of this, we demand that TV Licensing re-evaluates their decision and renews the discounted TV licensing fee for residents of St Crispin Retirement Village and similar communities nationwide. Stand with us in ensuring that our retired fellow citizens are treated with the respect and dignity they deserve. Please sign this petition to demonstrate your support.
