The Issue

The safety of our women and children should never be left to chance. In today’s world, where threats can emerge in even the most unexpected places, we must take clear and responsible steps to protect our communities. One such step is the introduction of a publicly accessible and actively updated list of sex offender locations, anonymised by postcode.

Such a system would not expose individual identities but would give parents and guardians the knowledge they need to make informed choices about where their children play, walk to school, or spend time with friends. It is a measured, reasonable way to protect the public without compromising personal privacy.

In the past, the names and addresses of sex offenders were immediately released through news channels, allowing communities to take action and remain alert. But current practices mean that such details are withheld until after formal trials, creating a gap in which families remain exposed and unaware.

It is concerning when offenders move across regions, change their identity or have convictions from outside the Isle of Man. Without a proper system of oversight, they may slip through the cracks and settle in new communities unnoticed.

By calling for an anonymized, postcode-based tracking system, we aren’t asking for public shaming, we’re asking for awareness. We’re asking for the right to protect our women and children. We’re asking for peace of mind.

The Isle of Man Government has a responsibility to act. Let’s make it clear: transparency matters. Community safety matters. Our children matter.
