Our families have deeply personal stories about leaving due to water rights issues, and we once stood together with the community to fight for what is right. Yet, despite a shared victory in securing these rights, those of us living off-reserve now find ourselves voiceless in the eyes of the Chief and Council. Our voices have been lost, our faces forgotten. We have become invisible to those who were elected to lead all of us, not just a select few. This needs to change.

This petition addresses the ongoing concerns and lack of communication regarding the specific water claim affecting the members of 711 - Esk’etemc. As registered members, we were assured of our involvement through meetings and decisive voting. Instead, we've been met with silence and obstructions. Requests for open discussions with the Chief and Council have been consistently ignored, enveloped by secrecy and unshared planning committee reports. This situation is unacceptable.

We are simply asking for transparency. We demand access to the full report, including detailed financials, to ensure there is an equal distribution of resources. All members of the Esk’etemc community, both on and off-reserve, deserve to know the truth. Only through transparency and the truthful sharing of information can trust be rebuilt and fairness ensured.

We call upon the Chief and Council to stand up to these challenges openly and responsibly. The rights and future of our community are at stake, and it is crucial that the voices of every member are heard and respected.

They have now had another “committee meeting” offering $25,000 to each of us yet to qualify you have to sign a document releasing them from any future claims. Remember any future claims. Does that make financial sense to you? Do you feel like chief and council is working with us or against? These are serious questions for the future of all not a few. The band won’t provide detailed financials.   Why wouldn’t they?   Ask yourself that.
