Demand Transparency in Gardena: Release T-Mobile Tower Environmental Impact Report

The Issue

There is a long tradition in the cities of Southern California, to bypass resident's rights to be fully informed of changes that occur in our neighborhoods. This must stop now, and you have the power to help.

For over 50 years, Betty has lived in Gardena in the home she and her late husband, Namon, purchased. Betty and Namon raised three children in that house, and host over 15 grandchildren for holidays, birthdays and special events.

We are reaching out to you to ask for your support. On or about March 1, 2021 T-Mobile started making changes to a tower located on the Serra High Football field. Since then, we have been experiencing interference from the tower on a great deal of the electrical equipment in our home. Our main way of communicating is digital, and now our internet and other devices are unreliable. If it is interfering with our electrical equipment, only God knows what it is doing to our bodies. No concrete evidence has been established to support these interfering emissions are not harmful to humans over long periods of time. Further, information has not been disbursed to show how these towers could be devaluing our properties.

The main point here, is not RF Energy and its link to human health. The issue is that the tower was installed without the consent of the residents of our neighborhood. Those who are most affected, should be the most informed. In this digital age (an age in which we are grateful to live through) this structure has interrupted the livelihood of Gardena residents. The city of Gardena, T-Mobile and the owner of the tower have a duty to inform residents of changes. For 10 years, RF Energy has been studied, so this information should be passed on the the residents who are closest to the infrastructural changes being made, so that they have peace of mind.

We are an empathetic people, who care for the well being of one another. We are working towards a world where, gone are the days of glossing over the human right to be informed in the name of business. We are asking you to sign this petition and start with a demand that in the City of Gardena and T-Mobile stop the function of the tower until they provide satisfactory Environmental Impact Reports* so that all people in proximity to this infrastructural change is informed and can consent or dissent to the changes.

Thank you for your time and for signing our petition to uphold resident rights in the City of Gardena. You do not have to be a resident of Gardena to sign this petiton.

*EIRs, which are reports to inform the public and public agency decision-makers of significant environmental effects of proposed projects, identify possible ways to minimize those effects, and describe reasonable alternatives to those projects.
