Demand transparency from Temple City Council on water impact
The Issue
Imagine standing before your city council, asking for transparency about your community's most vital resource - our water. That was us, the citizens of Temple, Texas, when we requested a pause to evaluate the potential long-term environmental impacts of massive data centers by giants like META and ROWAN. Our region is currently experiencing a documented drought, making this evaluation all the more critical for our future.
Instead of receiving answers, we have been met with silence and secrecy hidden behind Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs). The Mayor and City Council have chosen to prioritize the confidentiality of these corporations over the water security and health of Temple's citizens. The lack of transparency is alarming and unacceptable.
Water is a life source. How can we secure our community's future if we don’t even have access to the information about its usage and impact? It's time for the Temple City Council to break their silence and adhere to their duty of protecting their constituents' interests.
We, the citizens, have rallied 4,000 strong in our community, all registered voters, each one demanding that the council halts the secretive operations and instead files an injunction to ensure full disclosure of these data centers’ environmental and water impacts. If they refuse to listen to our voices, we will take action to unseat them. Our goal is clear: transparency and accountability from a council that should work for its citizens and not just private corporations.
Join us in demanding that our city leaders prioritize the welfare of the community over corporate interests. Sign this petition to put pressure on Temple City Council, urging them to file the necessary injunctions and give us the transparency we deserve. It's our water. It’s our health. It’s our home.
Sign the petition today to demand transparency and accountability before it's too late. Together, we can make a difference.
