Demand Transparency from Amazon for AI-Generated Content and Covers

Demand Transparency from Amazon for AI-Generated Content and Covers
The Issue
As a passionate reader, I don't want to spend my money on a book that is machine-generated. I want to read a book that was written from scratch by a human and that has a human created book cover. I not only support artists, but the environmental damage caused by Generative AI is staggering.
Amazon, as the world's largest online retailer, has a responsibility to its consumers to be transparent about the products it sells. The platform is full of AI generated 'books' with AI generated 'art' and they are not labeled as such and there is no way to filter them out in a search. There are 'authors' publicly posting about 'writing' a book a week using Generative AI Tools but not declaring it on their book listing thus taking the choice away from readers. This is not a small problem, with thousands of such 'books' being added to the platform daily.
This petition calls on Amazon to clearly and visibly label all books with AI-generated content and covers, thus allowing readers to make informed decisions. Currently, Amazon sells half of all the books in the US (source: Book Industry Study Group, 2020).
By signing this petition you join me in asking Amazon to publicly label books that contain AI generated content or covers appropriately so that consumers can choose how they spend their money.
