For too long, my children and others in Red Wing Public Schools have experienced bullying, discrimination, and now credible threats of violence. These are not isolated incidents, but part of a long-standing pattern of issues being swept under the rug by the school administration. My children have faced multiple incidents, and I am deeply concerned for their safety and well-being.

This morning, many rumors spread that a gun was discovered on a school bus, and the school was not transparent about the threats, a which lead to a lot of parents feeling anxious and frustrated. Many parents, myself included, were not promptly informed of the situation. The few parents who did receive notification were told that the threat was unsubstantiated. Such evasive communication endangers our children and shakes the trust between parents and the school system.

Our community is frustrated and rightfully demands transparency and accountability from the Red Wing Public Schools. It is time to implement significant reforms to address these systemic issues, ensuring that students can learn in a safe and supportive environment free from fear and prejudice.

We ask for the following actions to be taken to reform the Red Wing Public Schools:

1. Establish an independent committee to investigate incidents of bullying, discrimination, and violence within the school system, ensuring all findings and recommendations are transparently communicated with parents and the community.
2. Implement comprehensive anti-bullying and discrimination programs, including regular training for staff and students to foster an inclusive environment.
3. Develop a clear and immediate threat response protocol, ensuring that all parents are promptly and accurately informed of potential dangers.
4. Increase mental health support for students, providing resources to help those affected by bullying and violence.
5. Establish clear lines of communication between the school administration and parents, ensuring all concerns are heard and addressed in a timely manner.
