As immediate neighbours, we have endured years of noise and dust from blasting and jack hammering at the ViewPointe Estates Development in Sooke, BC. However, the recent obliteration of Ella Stream and the obfuscation of facts by our municipal government has pushed us to take action. The environmental destruction is ongoing with significant damage to our local watershed and forests. We insist on full transparency regarding this development project.

Ella Stream is a vital part of our ecosystem as it provides habitat for cutthroat trout in its lower reaches.  Furthermore, surrounding vegetation plays an essential role in maintaining air quality and preventing soil erosion (source: Canadian Forest Service).

The photo shows an area which used to be a fully functioning riparian echosystem with thick vegetation.  Blue line illustrates the approximate course the stream had before it got covered with rocks and fill.  Note large sections of land which were designated as PARK in the original plan, but somehow ended up cleared of all trees.

We demand an immediate meeting with municipal officials to discuss clear plans for remediation of Ella Stream and surrounding vegetation. It's time for our government to prioritize environmental protection over development interests.
