Demand transparency and accountability from Duwo, Carolina MacGillavrylaan

The Issue

Living in Amsterdam is already a challenging endeavour for many students and residents due to high costs and limited access to affordable housing. However, for those residing in Duwo-managed buildings, the situation has become increasingly difficult. We are experiencing disruptions to essential services that are crucial for maintaining basic living standards, such as basic heating, hot water, internet connection, the safety of the building and the few laundry machines available that is shared between the whole building. Yet we still find ourselves burdened with the regular service charges.

Main Issues:

  • No Heating or Hot Water in Winter
  • WiFi Distruptions
  • Non Residents entering the building and attempting to open tenant's doors or ringing their bells in the middle of the night at 12am-3am
  • Paying for TV Signal when we do not receive signal
  • Laundry Machine breaking down every few days

Many of us have had to resort to paying for additional services just to maintain a semblance of normalcy and continue living in these buildings. This is unfair and unsustainable. As paying residents, we deserve transparency and accountability from Duwo regarding the issues affecting the essential services we depend on.

Duwo, as a student and social housing provider, must clearly communicate what is happening with basic service operations. Residents need detailed information about the problems impacting our living conditions, and realistic timelines for when these problems will be resolved as soon as possible as deep winter is coming. Most importantly, Duwo should offer an offset for the services that have been hindered or interrupted. Financial compensation for these disruptions is necessary to alleviate the additional burden placed on residents who are already managing tight budgets.

To protect the welfare and financial stability of all affected residents in Carolina MacGillavrylaan, we urge Duwo to take the following actions immediately:
1. Provide comprehensive, transparent updates on the status of essential services.
2. Detail the plans and timelines for resolving any ongoing disruptions as soon as possible.
3. Offer financial offsets or compensations for services that have been suspended or insufficiently provided.

This call is not just about addressing service interruptions; it's about ensuring dignity and fairness for all residents under Duwo's management. We stand together to demand what is both right and just. Please sign this petition to support our demand for Duwo to be transparent and accountable!
