In Eswatini, many Swazi citizens have dedicated years and poured their limited resources into building homes for their families. These homes represent more than just shelter – they embody hope, security, and the relentless struggle against poverty and inequality that plague our nation. Yet, despite these personal sacrifices, countless homes are being demolished unlawfully, leaving families without compensation, without shelter, and without hope.

The unlawful demolition of homes by the Tinkhundla Government is a direct violation of basic human rights and a severe assault on the dignity and security of Swazi people. This is not just about bricks and mortar; it’s about acknowledging the innate value of every Swazi citizen and the right to protect what is theirs. It is about the children uprooted from their safe havens, the mothers who must choose between food and rebuilding, and the fathers who watch their years of labor turned to dust.

Evidence from numerous local reports highlights the patterns of demolition occurring without any legal recourse or compensation. Families are left destitute, further deepening the cycle of poverty in a country where economic hardships are already a daily reality. According to data from independent Swazi human rights organizations, the lack of transparent and fair legal processes in these demolitions has caused both physical and emotional trauma for the affected families.

There is a dire need for the Tinkhundla Government to halt all ongoing demolitions and engage in a fair, transparent consultation process with the affected communities. We propose the establishment of a legal framework ensuring adequate compensation and alternative housing for those whose homes are unjustly destroyed. This framework should include input from community leaders, legal experts, and independent observers to ensure fairness and transparency.

Swazis deserve a government that stands with them, not against them; a government that aims to uplift rather than oppress; a government that protects their homes, their dignity, and their future. We implore every compassionate citizen, activist, and human rights advocate to stand in solidarity with the Swazi people.
