IMPROVE highway U.S. 41/Kamm Road and Kassel Lane Intersection in Marinette County.
The Issue

Please consider signing and sharing this petition. This petition is open to those who use/pass this intersection (near the George Webb Restaurant and Truck Stop) on a regular basis and want safety measures and concerns addressed at this dangerous intersection. The Petition Signatures will go to the Wisconsin Department of Transporation (WisDOT) asking them to take action.
As residents deeply concerned about the safety of our local community, we are urging for immediate action on a pressing issue. Our local Peshtigo community has an intersection that is tragically known as "death's door" by those who provide emergency services in our community due to the high number of fatalities occurring at the U.S. Highway 41/Kamm Road (Kassel Lane) intersection. Too many lives have been lost here, and it's time for this to change.
According to the data from the Wisconsin Traffic Operations and Safety Laboratory, there have been more than 40 crashes and 4 deaths at this location and most recently, on Oct. 6, 8-month-old baby Alana Price lost her life after being in a collision at this intersection.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) has a responsibility to ensure safe travel for all road users. However, despite numerous accidents at this particular intersection over recent years, no substantial measures have been taken yet. WDOT is supposed to work with partners throughout Wisconsin to identify and resolve safety issues by gathering, analyzing, and reporting data on traffic crashes and injuries, and then use that data for investment, enforcement, and needed improvements for safe operations and travel on state highways such as this one.
According to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), intersections are responsible for more than half of all traffic-related injuries and around one-fifth of traffic-related fatalities nationwide (source: NHTSA). Given these statistics, it is clear that intersections like U.S. 41/Kamm Road need urgent attention from WisDOT.
We call upon the Wisconsin Department of Transportation not only to review but also improve safety measures at this dangerous intersection urgently. While the means and methods are the authority of WisDOT, we are demanding them to initiate a change and to address the issue at this location.
The suggestions of an overpass or right turn only by many in our community or even a frontage road seems to be the most logical path to resolving the issue. There are many grants available through both State and Federal funds to address safety concerns such as this, and our community needs WisDOT's help. This is a call to action for WisDOT to use state and federal funds to build a safer infrastructure on highway 41 at this specific location of known fatalities. By doing so, we can prevent further loss and grief in our community while ensuring safer roads for everyone who travels through Peshtigo, Grover, Marinette and other communities that use this highway in their everyday lives.
Please sign this petition today! Let's make our voices heard and bring about necessary change in our community's road safety standards and reduce crashes at this intersection. One life lost is one too many.
