EXPOSED: The Phoenix VA Police Department still operates with an old 80s and 90s mentality where racist and sexist “jokes” were protected, laughed at, and accepted. Police Leadership Officials with substantiated misconduct continue to hold power while those who report them are told they “can’t take a joke.” OSP took over and has done nothing to stop it.
THE OLD SCHOOL MENTALITY THAT NEVER DIED
There’s a certain type of police leadership at the Phoenix VA that still wishes it was like the 80s and 90s. Back then you could say whatever racist or sexist **** you wanted, and as long as you followed it up with “I’m just joking” or “We’re just having fun,” there were usually no real consequences. The culture protected it. The system looked the other way. And some of them got promoted while doing it.
That same lazy, racist, “just joking” energy is still running the show at the Phoenix VA Police.
A CASE STUDY: THE WILMINGTON, NORTH CAROLINA POLICE DEPARTMENT
Take Wilmington, North Carolina back in 2020. Three officers got caught on their own dash cam during a random audit saying some of the most disgusting racist comments you can imagine.
One officer said:
- “We are just gonna go out and start slaughtering them f****** n******. I can't wait. God, I can't wait.”
Another officer responded:
- “Wipe 'em off the f****** map. That'll put 'em back about four or five generations.”
When asked about an impending civil war and buying a weapon, one of them said:
- “I'm ready.”
These are the same type of people who sit on interview boards and decide who gets promoted, who advances, and who gets pushed out. They’ll walk right up to their fellow Black officers, dap them up, and shake their hands in the hallway like everything’s fine. But when the cameras aren’t rolling and the pressure is on, the mask slips.
The 2020 Pressure Cooker: "The Summer of Love"
This was during a time when the whole country was on edge due to the "National Unrest of 2020." Instead of handling the pressure professionally, these officers chose to vent by openly talking about slaughtering Black people (literally used the word "Slaughter" ).
The Excuses and Deflections
When the video came out, they did what people like that always do. The most violently vocal officer didn’t apologize. Instead, he blamed his comments on the National Unrest of 2020. He claimed he was just “venting.” Another officer tried to use his religion to justify or downplay what was said.
IT’S NEVER JUST A JOKE
These “jokes” don’t just hurt feelings. They destroy careers, block promotions, and turn daily life into hell for the officers who have to work under these people. At the Phoenix VA Police Department, if you report the harassment, you’re the one who gets told you can’t take a joke. You’re the one accused of pulling the race or gender card (ask the current & past female officers of the Phoenix VA). Meanwhile, the people actually saying and doing this stuff get protected.
At least in Wilmington, those officers got fired. Around here, the same racist jokes will get you your own office, your feet up on the desk, and permanent protection from ever having to testify in court again. They make you one of the “Untestifiables.”
THE "NEUTRAL ONES" WHO PROTECT THE PROBLEM
But the ones who really keep this stuff alive aren’t always the loud ones. Sometimes it’s the "neutral ones."
The People Who Ride The Middle
The people who see it, know it’s wrong, but don’t want to get involved. The ones who say “They’re just being too sensitive” or “They’re playing the race card” when it’s convenient.
They Only Care When It Costs Them Nothing
They’ll show a little empathy in private when it doesn’t cost them anything, but the second it might affect their own comfort or next move, they go quiet or start riding the middle. These are the ones who let it keep going. They’ll play whatever side benefits them at the time.
THE UNOFFICIAL PROTECTION PROGRAM
While the rest of us are expected to follow the rules, a certain type of police leadership at the Phoenix VA gets to enjoy their own "Unofficial Protection Program." Complete with private offices, continued authority, and the freedom to keep doing whatever they want — all funded by the same Taxpayers and Veterans they’re supposed to serve.
Making Protection Official
The Office of Operations, Security, and Preparedness (OSP) was supposed to bring accountability when they took over VA Police recently. Instead, they inherited the "R.O.T." and decided the best move was to do nothing about it - and let R.O.T.T.E.N(ess) spread like cancer. That’s not leadership. That’s just making the protection official.
THE REAL QUESTION
The real question isn’t whether these problems exist. The real question is:
- How long OSP is going to keep pretending they don’t?
Because every day they do nothing, they’re not just ignoring the problem. They’re choosing it.
