As a human rights lawyer with decades of experience in advocating for international human rights, having traveled to the Occupied West Bank, Palestine, I have witnessed firsthand the critical humanitarian and political situations affecting millions of Palestinians longing for self-determination. Having dedicated my career to calling out tragedies and genocides in extreme detail, raising my voice for justice is not just a professional obligation; it is a moral imperative.

The recognition of Palestinian statehood is a crucial step towards ensuring peace, stability, and justice in the Middle East. Approximately 5 million Palestinians currently live under occupation, facing daily challenges such as restricted movement, lack of resources, violation of basic human rights, and apartheid. Palestinians in Gaza currently suffer famine and genocide. These issues are amplified by the ongoing and violent settlement expansions, which are deemed illegal under international law, further exacerbating tensions between Israel and Palestine.

International pressure and advocacy are more important than ever. Over 138 of 193 United Nations member states and two observer states have recognized the State of Palestine. However, the United States of America, a key player on the global stage, has yet to formally recognize Palestine, a crucial step that could dramatically shift the dynamics towards peace.

By calling on the US Government and all members of Congress to formally recognize Palestinian statehood, we are advocating for a significant change that could lead to meaningful justice, providing both Israelis and Palestinians the opportunity to live peacefully and securely.

We must leverage our influence and responsibility to support Palestinian self-determination, end the famine and genocide they face, and end the systemic inequities and violence faced by millions. This is a call to action for compassionate individuals who value human rights and international justice.
