The Issue

Like many of us, I care deeply for the welfare and well-being of animals. Along with employees who care about the dog and cats at Miami-Dade County Animal Services and countless tax payers of the county, we are distressed by the palpable mistreatment of dogs and cats under the supervision of the Animal Services' current director, Annette Jose. We believe that she is grossly incompetent and her actions compromise the very mission of the department she is in charge of. Dogs are being stored in airline crates along the hallways, and it's been noted that she is deceptively stashing dogs away at the old Medley facility.  Videos circulate with employees who don't care about animals laughing at roaches in the medical area.  Alarmingly, we've observed a spike in the euthanasia of animals under her tenure.  And more dogs are getting sick than ever before.

There is a distinct lack of transparency which is deeply unsettling for those of us on the frontline caring about these animals, and for the responsive citizens who fund this service. We went from a commendable director to sadly the worst in Miami-Dade history. Annette Jose's appointment has incited a great deal of dissatisfaction and frustration; her inefficiency and seeming indifference make her unfit to hold such an office. We hold a belief that animals are not simple commodities to be discarded at will, but rather they deserve care, respect, compassion – none of which they are currently receiving at Miami-Dade Animal Services.

Change is needed. We urge the powers that be, the Mayor of Miami-Dade County, to terminate Annette Jose’s directorship at Miami-Dade Animal Services. By doing so, we can start to rebuild the faith within our community and ensure our four-legged friends meet the fate they deserve - a fostered future full of comfort and wellbeing.  We had faith with your previous appointment but with this mistake, our faith is long gone.  We urge you to sign this petition to force this needed change for a new director of animal services.
