On November 18th, a devastating accident occurred near the WidowMaker tree on James Island, Charleston, SC. Four young men tragically lost their lives and one young woman is still fighting for her life. These individuals were not just statistics; they were fathers, sons, brothers and friends to many in our community. The woman who is still battling for her life is a mother, daughter and sister.

This was not an isolated incident. There have been numerous accidents related to this tree over the years. Each time we are reminded of the danger it poses yet nothing has been done to address this issue. We cannot stand by any longer while lives are put at risk.

The WidowMaker tree has become a symbol of grief and fear in our community due to its association with these tragic incidents. Its removal will not only make our roads safer but also help us heal from these tragedies by removing a constant reminder of our loss.

We call upon the Town of James Island authorities to take immediate action and remove this hazardous tree before it claims more lives or causes further injuries.
