I am a student of Prince William County Schools (PWCS), and I have been fortunate to receive some of the best education in Virginia. In my early years, we had Mr. Steve Waltz as our superintendent, a time when issues were few and far between. However, in 2021, LaTayna McDade joined PWCS from Chicago Public Schools and implemented policies that are foreign and unnecessary for our county.

Under McDade's leadership, there has been a noticeable lack of direction and failure to promote a positive learning environment. The focus on mental health support has also dwindled significantly under her tenure. This is particularly concerning given that studies show that one in five children aged 13-18 have or will have a serious mental illness (National Institute of Mental Health).

Furthermore, her inability to adapt to the unique needs and culture of PWCS has resulted in policies that do not align with our community’s values or educational goals. This failure of leadership is not what we expect or deserve from someone in such an influential position.

We believe it is crucial for the superintendent to understand our community's needs thoroughly - something we feel Ms. McDade has failed at doing since she took office.

Therefore, we urge you to join us in demanding the removal of LaTayna McDade as Superintendent for Prince William County Schools. Our students deserve better; they deserve leadership that understands them and can provide them with an environment conducive to their growth both academically and personally.
