Demand the removal of Harvard & MIT Presidents- following federal inquiry
The Issue
Under the leadership of Claudine Gay & Sally Kornbluth: Harvard & MIT have fostered such unsafe campuses for their Jewish students that they were called to testify in a FEDERAL inquiry. (Liz Magill from Penn also testified but recently resigned!)
For this reason (with additional details provided below), we call on the boards of Harvard and MIT to use their power and vote out Claudine Gay & Sally Kornbluth immediately from ALL positions in their respective universities.
Universities should be a safe space for all students. Harvard, & MIT themselves have statements and policies against discrimination and harassment.
From Harvard's Non-Discrimination Policy: "Discriminatory harassment may be considered to violate this policy when it is so severe or pervasive, and objectively offensive, that it creates a work, educational, or living environment that a reasonable person would consider intimidating, hostile, or abusive and denies the individual an equal opportunity to participate in the benefits of the workplace or the institution’s programs and activities."
From MIT's Non-Discrimination Policy: "The Institute prohibits discrimination against individuals on the basis of race, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, pregnancy, religion, disability, age, genetic information, veteran status, or national or ethnic origin in the administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, employment policies, scholarship and loan programs, and other Institute administered programs and activities."
It is clear that even according to these universities' own policy definitions, Claudine Gay & Sally Kornbluth have allowed repeated harassment & discrimination under their watch. Here is a glimpse:
At Harvard, a student was recently surrounded by "Pro-Palestinian" protesters yelling shame as he was attempting to walk away, as well as student groups hosting protests with chants such as "intifada" & "from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free."
At MIT, there has also been repeated antisemitism- some of which is outlined in a document featured in an MIT faculty newsletter.
Even when being questioned during the federal inquiry that has ensued, the aforementioned presidents could not take a clear stand against antisemitism. When asked if calling for the genocide of Jews was against the Universities' codes of conduct & would result in action being taken, Claudine Gay (Harvard) said, “When speech crosses into conduct, we take action.” Sally Kornbluth (MIT) said it would be, “investigated as harassment if pervasive and severe.”
Additionally, as William A. Ackman stated in his letter to Harvard: "On September 28, 2023, the Biden Administration issued a clarifying release stating that Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits certain forms of antisemitism, Islamophobia and related discrimination as part of its National Strategy to Counter Antisemitism released in May 2023 https://www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/U.S.-National-Strategy-to-CounterAntisemitism.pdf Title VI of the Civil Rights Act requires universities to provide all students, including students who are or are perceived to be Jewish, a school environment free from discrimination. The consequences for a university’s failure to meet the requirements of Title VI include the cancellation of federal funding."
Geraldine Acuña-Sunshine & Meredith Hodges, Board of Overseers leaders (Harvard)
Mark P. Gorenberg, Chair (MIT),
your presidents not only allowed violations of your universities’ code of conduct, but they are taking taxpayer money to fund your schools that are arguably violating Title VI. They have shown with their words & actions (and lack-thereof), that they cannot run safe universities & use federal funds properly.
Considering this, it is imperative you vote them out immediately from all leadership & teaching positions.
Signed, concerned citizens, alumni, & taxpayers who are funding your schools.
