Next Monday evening at 5:30, Bartlesville City Council will hold a workshop where they will be discussing actions to take on the Flock surveillance system installed in your community.
This will be the first opportunity for those of you who've signed up for updates on this topic to make a conscious decision to at minimum show up and support the full removal of these devices or ideally come a little early and sign up to express your thoughts for why you want them fully removed.
It doesn't have to be a long or eloquent speech, but authenticity and sincerity matter. The more of you who show up and express your sincere desire for their removal, the better the chance we have at seeing the council honor our requests.
Likely, the discussion will be framed around figuring out how to regulate the devices with policy instead of fully removing them. Our wishes will be best served if we show up in large numbers and share our desire to have them removed completely from Bartlesville.
No one asked for these devices to be installed here. They were unilaterally requested by the police department and city manager and subsequently voted in by the prior city council with nearly zero public notification or requests for comment. There is no reason that this new council cannot vote to fully remove them.
See you Monday night!
