Almost two weeks ago, Bartlesville Police Department hosted a one-sided forum reinforcing only their own perspective on the Flock surveillance system.
In December, weeks before the forum, I met with BPD leadership for over two hours explaining all of the issues with this technology, why we must cancel this contract, and remove these devices.
In that meeting, they had shared that there would be a forum in January that would help inform the public more fully.
Assuming they would welcome multiple perspectives, I eagerly offered to be included on their panel to provide a balanced discussion on the technology and architecture—they refused.
This is the reason they were so quick to silence my line of questioning in the Flock forum despite the fact that they had brought in Flock experts to address citizens’ questions!
Because so much of the Flock discussion has been one-sided, I am very pleased to announce that State Representative Tom Gann will be in Bartlesville February 6th at 6:30PM. His presentation will be at Wesleyan Christian Church.
Tom has been at the forefront of efforts at the capitol to hold state and local officials accountable for the existing laws regulating these surveillance devices and championing new legislation to mitigate their propagation. Recent press release here: https://bit.ly/3Wxdt5l
Let’s give Tom a huge Bartlesville welcome and mark your calendars to attend this highly educational evening. Encourage others to attend with you. Education is key!
In liberty,
Josh
