Recall LA City Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martínez for Supporting Lawlessness!
The Issue
I'm lucky enough to call Hollywood home. Like hundreds of others in our community, I live across the street from a site that has been besieged by unpredictable and relentless protests for the past year. The protesters have started as early as 6 AM and use full drum sets and bullhorns. The noise is so intense that even with every window closed, ear plugs do not drown it out.
Making excessive amounts of noise using drums and bullhorns during a protest is illegal. Continued exposure to loud noise is known to cause serious mental and even physical health issues. Even so, Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martínez has pressured the police in his district not to enforce noise ordinance violations during labor disputes.
Despite numerous attempts from us to reach him regarding this issue, he has chosen to ignore our pleas for help. As a former employee of local 11, the union organizing this protest, it's clear he has a conflict of interest.
We do not want our city to suffer from a doom spiral, when lawlessness causes businesses and residents to flee. We deserve representatives who listen to us and take action. This isn't just an inconvenience, it's a public health issue. We respect and support worker's rights to fight for a living wage but the health and wellbeing of our community cannot be sacrificed along the way.
Let's make sure we send Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martínez a clear message! Please sign this petition today!
