Can you imagine needing to use the bathroom during a critical school day, only to find it occupied, with no alternatives available? This unfortunate scenario is a frustrating reality for me and my peers at our school where not all bathrooms are accessible. Our right to basic amenities is being compromised and it's time to address this issue that often goes overlooked.

It’s frustrating how only one bathroom is open, and of course, it has to be the one that’s the farthest from any classroom. It makes it nearly impossible to get there and back in time without being late, especially when there’s already a line of other students dealing with the same issue. Teachers expect us to use the restroom during breaks, but with so many students and only one option, it’s just not practical. Plus, it’s exhausting having to speed-walk across the entire school just for a basic necessity. It would make way more sense to have multiple bathrooms open to avoid all this unnecessary hassle.

According to a study by Social Science & Medicine, ensuring access to toilets in schools is linked to improved educational performance, reduced absenteeism, and a healthier mental environment (Social Science & Medicine, 2013). Unfortunately, our school in its current state is inhibiting these potential benefits.

All we ask for is dignity and respect in fulfilling a basic human need. It's not only about convenience but of utmost importance for our academic performance, mental well-being, and general comfort during the school hours.
