The Issue

My brother, my best friend, the right side of me - Kamran Ahmed was abruptly ripped out of our lives. The family door was broken down, my parents were left frightened waking up to officers in their room as their son, my brother was taken away from his role as sole carer to our elderly, ill parents. His "crime"- exercising his right to freedom of speech, a right we hold dear in the United Kingdom and supporting Palestine, demanding the end to the genocide and killing of innocent civilians.

He has been illegitimately detained and arrested under the Terrorism Act. Unfortunately, he is not alone. There has been a wave of arrests under the Terrorism Act recently for activists and journalists who have spoken out in support of Palestine. It's alarming that the UK government, which claims to uphold democratic values, is silencing people like Kamran who speak out against injustices. Freedom of speech and protest are fundamental human rights recognised by the Human Rights Act 1998. Yet, the increasing misuse of terror legislation threatens these rights.

We cannot stand by and allow this abuse to continue. Sign this petition to demand the immediate release of Kamran Ahmed, a champion of justice, for those falsely detained under the Terrorism Act for supporting Palestine, and for a review of the misuse of terror legislation on protestors in the UK.
