WAKE UP, CANADA: Turning our public airports into corporate cash cows? 🛑✈️

If you think travelling through Canada is expensive, stressful, or slow right now, imagine what happens when for-profit corporate shareholders take the reins. Right now, tucked away inside a massive 240-page federal omnibus bill (Bill C-39), the government is moving to quietly transition day-to-day operations of Canada’s four largest airport hubs—Toronto Pearson, Vancouver, Montreal Trudeau, and Calgary—into private corporate hands via long-term concession arrangements. These essential gateways are currently operated by community-focused, not-for-profit airport authorities. They were built with your tax dollars to serve the public. If we stay quiet, they will be handed over to private corporations whose primary loyalty is to squeeze maximum profit out of travelers, workers, and local communities. This is an outright sell-off of vital Canadian infrastructure, and it is being done without a mandate from Canadian voters. This is a turning point. We are taking this straight to Parliament. To fight this, I have officially submitted a formal House of Commons E-Petition directly to the government portal in Ottawa. Our petition draws a clear, reasonable line: we support making environmental reviews efficient and fast within a strict 1-year timeline to stop economic stagnation, but we firmly reject using an omnibus bill to force corporate privatization of our national hubs and strip away worker rights.
