CPSC & manufactures failed to prevent deaths and injuries. Please Sign & Share these 3 petitions !
The gross negligence by the CPSC and manufactures of these 3 products is inexcusable. There have been 100's of 1000's of deaths and injuries that could of been prevented had the CPSC required recalls, warning labels and or safety features decades ago when the dangers of the 1st two products below were brought to the CPSC attention. The dangerous ionization alarms have never had a warning label or recall since that consumer fraud was exposed in 1976. Over 100 of you who signed have yet to share the petition via Change org links and it is not to late to post a comment as well to send the message that we will not stand for this gross negligence any longer. The CPSC has been aware of this Battery Button danger for at least 39 years since they posted a warning on their website in 1983. Fast forward 31 years in 2014 per CPSC website WASHINGTON, D.C. – During International Product Safety Week (June 16-20, 2014), a bi-annual meeting of government, industry and consumer organizations, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and counterparts from 12 other countries and jurisdictions team up to make button battery safety a global priority. Yet it took another 3 years for them to release this "The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) approved changes to the toy safety standard (ASTM F963-17) in 2017 to require that toys powered by button batteries have warning labels and instructions regarding the risks, but the standard does not cover other types of button battery-powered products".
It took 34 years to mandate toys have a warning label on them yet not for other products powered by button batteries and no mandate for safety features to keep the batteries from falling out which is extremely negligent considering how many other products there are in homes. It wasn't till just a few months ago Reese’s Law was passed by legislators in August 2022 with bipartisan support, which will require the CPSC to develop child-resistant testing standards for battery compartments of button battery-powered devices. The law will also require such devices to feature labels that clearly communicate the risk of ingestion among young children. Even though it secured a victory there are still millions of people unaware of the dangers of button batteries including many of you and people you know so please sign and share it with them to protect their children and elderly parents who are also injured by the small batteries in hearing aides.
The newest petition with over 51,300 signatures is aimed to have a ban on water beads that were claimed to be non-toxic by many manufactures causing serious deaths and injuries. From what I seen on CPSC website some manufactures voluntarily submitted a recall to CPSC as far back as 2005 but that was not near enough.
