Triple M host Marty Sheargold forced to apologise for offensive on-air comments about Matildas

It's a deeply personal issue for myself and many others. We remember vividly the day Marty Sheargold made odious and sexist remarks about our beloved Australian Matildas team on radio, and the only response his comments were met with, was laughter from a room full of men. This lack of accountability offers a clear picture on why such incidents continue to occur. If left unaddressed, it sends a powerful message that such behavior is somehow acceptable and can be overlooked. It is alarming that sexism and misogyny are still deeply ingrained in our society, even in 2022.

According to reports by the Workplace Gender Equality Agency, 39% of women and 26% of men have experienced some form of gendered harassment at work in the last five years. No one should have to endure such an experience at their place of work, let alone be made a public spectacle on the airwaves.

We demand accountability from the radio station and its host, Marty Sheargold. We want him to face repercussions for his disparaging comments. For too long, individuals in positions of influence have escaped scrutiny for their actions. It's high time we bring this to an end.
