Hello fellow concerned Surprise Residents.
I am writing to you today after two days of processing the events of the most recent Surprise City Council Meeting, which was also the first meeting after their short break for summer and the first meeting held since Cline was censured.
This past Tuesday, August 6, twelve separate commissioner positions were confirmed by the city council after going through was is supposed to be an ethical and competitive application and interview process. However, it was far from the case.
Unfortunately, Aly Cline is the chair of the Nomination Subcommittee, where according to Surprise Municipal Code, she would have been hand-selected by Mayor Skip Hall, and then had the power to choose the two other councilmembers who would make up this committee. Cline chose Ken Remley and Nick Haney to fill the remaining two seats.
I was there on Tuesday, and three residents (myself included) spoke out against the ethics and motivations of this committee. It apparently fell on deaf ears, as council moved forward with confirming all twelve nominees.
I implore you all to take action on the three steps outlined below:
