Our children are on the cusp of one of the most important milestones of their lives: graduation. It is more than a ceremony—it is a celebration of their hard work, dedication, and perseverance. Sadly, the Hillsboro School District (HSD) recently made the decision to relocate the June 2027 graduation ceremonies for all four comprehensive high schools to the much smaller Liberty High School Stadium. This sudden change comes due to a scheduling conflict at the larger, more suitable Hillsboro Stadium—a conflict that prioritizes a corporate baseball homestand over our students.

Hillsboro Stadium has always been the chosen venue, providing ample space and facilities to accommodate families and friends eager to witness and share in this once-in-a-lifetime event. The decision to relocate to Liberty High School Stadium is not just an inconvenience; it compromises the integrity of this special occasion, transforming what should be an expansive celebration into a limited gathering.

This exact group of students missed their traditional elementary school graduations during COVID-19, and most middle school promotions in the district were reduced to a drive-thru event. High school graduation is their very first opportunity to walk across a proper stage in front of all their loved ones. They have waited 12 years for a normal, dignified celebration, and the district needs to do better than a compromised high school stadium. The Class of 2027, their families, and indeed the entire community deserve an event that reflects the significance of this achievement. HSD's decision undermines the efforts of these students and fails to honor the commitment of families who have invested so much in their children's education. Most importantly, the Class of 2027 has already sacrificed more than most. 

We urge HSD leadership to explore and secure alternative, high-capacity venues within the community or neighboring areas. Potential locations can include college auditoriums, local arenas, or even a temporary structure if necessary. By leveraging local partnerships and resources, we can find a suitable venue that allows every student and family to participate fully without restrictions.
