For years, residents of Kharghar, Kalamboli, Panvel, and other areas under the Panvel Municipal Corporation have endured severe air pollution, primarily caused by industrial emissions . The persistent, foul, and chemical-like odor, particularly noticeable during late nights and early mornings, is more than a nuisance; it is a critical public health crisis affecting thousands of people, including children and the elderly. 

1.    THE PROBLEM
The primary source of this pollution seems to be the unauthorized and illegal release of harmful gases and chemical waste from industrial units in the Taloja MIDC area. Despite numerous complaints and growing public awareness, many industries continue to operate with insufficient oversight, releasing toxic chemicals that compromise our environment and health. Residents are frequently forced to keep their windows and doors shut to avoid the fumes, effectively turning their homes into unhealthy spaces

2.    THE IMPACT

Continuous exposure to these toxic gases is leading to a rise in health issues among our communities, including:

• Chronic respiratory problems like asthma
• Bronchial infections
• Severe headaches and nausea
• Irritation of the eyes and throat

3.    THE DEMAND
We demand that the Panvel Municipal Corporation and the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board take immediate and decisive action to resolve this crisis. Specifically, we call for:
·       Strict Enforcement: Conduct surprise inspections and impose heavy penalties on industries in Taloja MIDC that violate emission standards.
·       Continuous Monitoring: Install real-time, publicly accessible air quality monitors in affected areas like Kharghar, Kalamboli, and Panvel to provide transparent data on pollution levels.
·       Visible Action: Publish a clear and time-bound action plan outlining the steps being taken to curb industrial emissions and improve air quality.
·       Health Awareness: Launch public health campaigns to inform residents about the risks of exposure and the steps they can take to protect themselves
