Demand Southwark Council to Initiate Efficient Waste Management in Peckham

The Issue

We, the residents of lovely Peckham, have become all too familiar with a not-so-lovely sight - the streets filled with rubbish. Each day, we are touching and seeing overflowing bins, rubbish dumped unceremoniously, and businesses with no choice but to contribute to the piles on our walkways. The implications are more than visual; vermin like rats, pigeons, and foxes have found a reliable meal source in our mess, escalating the issue to a health risk.

In a neighborhood of hardworking, earnest people who value cleanliness, this waste scenario is neither ordinary nor acceptable. We understand that people don't litter without reason. Indeed, the lack of an effective waste management system by the Southwark council is asking for this litter scenario. We assert that the responsibility lies with our council to provide the necessary infrastructure to handle our waste. If a town's hygiene is a reflection of its governance, it shows that Southwark council needs to revise its policies.

Our ask is explicit. Southwark Council must design and implement a comprehensive waste management system in Peckham. This system should ensure that our high street and surrounding areas are permanently free from rubbish, and that businesses and residents have easy and regular access to waste management facilities. Rigorous enforcement of littering laws must come in tandem with supportive measures to prevent waste pile-up in the first place.

Change starts at home. In our case, this "home" is our beloved neighborhood of Peckham, a place that we want to feel proud of, not just for its people, but also for its cleanliness. It's time for Southwark Council to step up. Sign this petition to demand better waste management in Peckham. Let's clean up our streets, for the safety, beauty, and pride of our people.
