Demand Sanctions Against the United States for Supporting Israel's Actions
The Issue
I am personally moved to action by the tragic loss of innocent lives in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The pain and suffering experienced by victims is heart-wrenching, but it becomes even more so, when one realizes that the supposed world power, the United States of America, plays a significant role in perpetuating this conflict and violence.
According to Human Rights Watch, after the Hamas-led attack in Israel on 7 October 2023, which killed 1,200 people, mostly civilians, Israeli attacks in Gaza have murdered more than 20,000 Palestinian civilians. About 70% of these Palestinians were women and children.
Unlawful Israeli restrictions on humanitarian aid have also contributed to an ongoing humanitarian catastrophe for Gaza’s 2.2 million population because basic needs such as food, water, and medical supplies were cut off.
Israel also continues to occupy Palestinian lands for more than half a century. Israel's occupation of the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip has resulted in human rights violations against Palestinians living there. Israel's ruthless policies of land confiscation, illegal settlement and dispossession, coupled with rampant discrimination, have inflicted displacement and immense suffering on Palestinians, depriving them of their basic rights.
Yet, despite these alarming atrocities and global outcry for justice and peace, the U.S. has continued to support Israel. On 8 December 2023, the U.S. vetoed against a U.N. resolution which called for an immediate ceasefire.
The U.S. veto basically hands a prize to Israel to continue its massacre of Palestinian civilians, violation of international human rights laws, and occupation of Palestinian lands.
This petition therefore calls upon individuals to demand your own country to impose economic and diplomatic sanctions on the United States until it reevaluates its stance towards Israel's actions against Palestinians, and takes concrete steps towards promoting peace rather than fueling conflict and violence.
