In the heart of Southwest Memphis, Tennessee, xAI, operating under SpaceXAI, has built an enormous artificial intelligence data center hub. Central to this operation is the Colossus supercomputer, with its record-fast deployment that comes at the high cost of our environmental and public health. For the families residing in the predominantly Black neighborhoods nearby, the presence of this facility means living with the everyday reality of smog-forming nitrogen oxides (NOx) and formaldehyde, a recognized carcinogen that is linked to respiratory issues and asthma.

The gas turbines essential to this operation emit these dangerous chemicals, worsening air quality and posing severe health risks to community members. The alarming fact that these operations continue without any permits is not just a brazen disregard for our well-being but also a direct violation of federal laws designed to protect our environment and health.

xAI's refusal to even apply for the necessary permits is a glaring indicator of their indifference to the rules and to the families that live in their vicinity. This unlawful operation must be halted to prevent further injustice and environmental degradation.

The communities affected by these actions are already facing numerous socio-economic challenges, and the addition of this unnecessary health risk compounds their plight. We cannot stand by while corporations prioritize their advancements over the health and safety of an entire community. We must require that xAI dismantles this hub and ceases all harmful operations immediately.
