Living in West Warwick, RI, used to mean privacy and peace of mind in my own home. However, that tranquility has been shattered by my neighbor's recent decision to install an invasive security camera right on the property line. This camera is not used to keep watch over their yard; its sole purpose is to surveillance my family, property, and my adjacent neighbors capturing into our windows and even records audio. This situation is more than uncomfortable—it's unacceptable. Sitting in my living room or spending time with family should be moments of privacy, yet I am forced to endure the feeling of being watched.

When I spoke with local police I was told there is nothing they can do since it’s on their property but was informed I could block it. I did what the police had advised and placed a patio umbrella in front, they continuously changed the height of the camera on a moveable mount every time I repositioned the umbrella trying to protect my privacy.

This intrusive surveillance is a violation of my personal space and privacy. This situation is installing fear and anxiety on my 16 old daughter. It’s not just my family that's affected; many in the community might feel alarmed if such practices become acceptable. Privacy should be respected by neighbors, not invaded by them. Therefore, I urge my neighbor to reposition or remove the camera so it does not invade my property.

Home security is important, but it shouldn't come at the expense of someone else's right to privacy. There are more respectful alternatives that provide security without infringing others’ liberties. Solutions like repositioning the existing camera or investing in non-invasive security systems could assure safety without peering into private spaces.
