My name is an ordinary one, belonging to an ordinary person. But like so many out there, my life was disrupted in an extraordinary way. One morning, waking up with the expectation of simply being able to feed my children, I found that the $374 benefits I heavily rely upon were missing, leaving a mere $7 on my EBT card. Such a sum may seem insignificant to many, but to a low-income family in a world where even a dozen eggs cost over $5, this is vital.

This instance is not isolated but is part of the widespread Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) scams that have been impacting countless vulnerable victims across our society. It is disheartening to suffer from these schemes when we are already grappling with financial instability. Families are left hungry, children denied basic nutrition, and people pushed further down the poverty line due to these offenses.

The US Department of Agriculture reported a loss of nearly $70 million in SNAP benefits due to fraud in 2016. These scams are a blatant violation of our rights and an aggressive exploitation of citizens who are merely trying to make ends meet.

I am standing up not only for myself but also for all who have endured this grotesque scam. We demand the government to promptly investigate these scams, protect our rights, and ensure full reimbursement to all victims of SNAP fraud.

This will not break me. I can guarantee that we will come out of this stronger and wiser. I teach my 2 sons morals, the difference between right and wrong and everything in between. Stand up for what's right. This is happening too often to too many people. Let a voice be heard.
