Demand Public Consultation About Camden Square Play Centre's Management and Usage Changes
The Issue
Our community is deeply shocked and concerned about the current situation at Camden Square Play Centre.
The resignation of the manager, Paula, and PACE’s decision not to rehire her as a sessional worker is troubling. Paula has a wealth of experience and an exceptional understanding of the unique situations faced by the families and carers who rely on the Centre. Her longstanding commitment and deep connection to the community have been invaluable. This decision does not appear to prioritise the needs of the service or its users.
Paula has been a cornerstone of our community, managing the Centre with excellence for over 12 years. Her sudden departure is not just a personal loss but a significant blow to the Camden Square Play Centre, the community and the PACE organisation. She has been the driving force behind the Centre's success, ensuring the well-being and safeguarding of our children. Her absence creates uncertainty about the future of the service, and we fear it may lead to further staff departures, undermining the consistency and trust that parents and carers depend on.
As parents and service users, we are alarmed by the lack of transparency in the PACE’s management. No communication has been made to the parents. I called to seek clarification, including leaving a voicemail at the PACE head office on Thursday 14th Nov 24 my message was simply " I am a parent/ user of the service can someone call me back" As of 1st Dec 24 I have yet to receive a response. This lack of communication erodes trust and leaves us feeling excluded from decisions that impact the Centre and our children.
The Camden Square Play Centre, a purpose-built facility, is a vital resource for after-school and out-of-term care. We the parents are concerned at any potential changes adding to our growing concerns.
Through this petition, we demand the following:
Reconsideration of Paula’s Employment: We urge PACE to reconsider Paula’s application for part-time employment, recognising her invaluable contribution and experience.
Improved Communication: The PACE app has proven inadequate for engaging with parents. We call for more effective and transparent communication channels.
Immediate Public Consultation with All Trustees: Decisions affecting Camden Square Play Centre are being made by Trustees who remain unknown to the community of service users. Any proposed changes to the Centre’s must involve the community and include direct engagement with all Trustees and parents.
The Camden Square Play Centre has always represented the diversity and inclusivity of our community. Decisions affecting its future must be made collaboratively, with the voices of parents and carers at the forefront.
We urge you to join us in standing up for the Centre and our community. By signing this petition, you are supporting our plea for transparency, inclusivity, and the restoration of trust. Together, we can inspire positive change and ensure the Centre continues to serve our children and families effectively.
