Ever since Pennsylvania American Water took over McKeesport sewage system years ago, our rates have gone up regularly for years now. 

And now, they have announced that in January they plan on raising them again...BY 12%!!!!

The sewage bill used to be half of what the water bill was. Not anymore! Now the sewage bill is 2 to 3 times with the water bill is! 

And it seems like every so many months, the sewage bill rate goes up!

Every time the rates go up, it seems to be coupled with PAW buying up yet another sewage system somewhere across the state. 

These high rates that we pay out of our pockets are supposed to be going towards our local sewage system improvements.

Instead, we are now paying for improvements in other cities and making American Water a boatload of profit!. 

The high rates, two or three times the cost of getting fresh water from MAWC to begin with, are bad enough. 

But they are also charging us to process water that they never have to process. 

When we wash a car in our driveway, top off a kiddie pool, water or lawn or our garden, or basically do anything with water outside the house, PAW is charging us to process that water as sewage....even rhough thatvwater goes into the ground or into the sky!

In neighboring White oak pa,  MAWC handles both the Water service as well as the sewage service there. MAWC provides what is called a deduct meter so that the water that you use outdoors is deducted from your sewage bill. 

When I contacted PAW about this, they said they do not do deduct meters and that the tariff with the PUC allows them to charge us without deduct meters. Basically, the guy told me "we charge this way because we can".

When I contacted the PUC multiple times, all they would say is "we do not get involved in billing matters".

I understand why PAW is resisting deduct meters. It is free money in their pockets, coming from our pockets. 

But the PUC is turning a blind eye to our problem!

We need to make our voices heard!

Our local politicians need to help us!

If you ever use water outside of your house for anything other than toileting, washing dishes, or showering, this affects you!

And even if you do not, the rate is going up AGAIN!

This affects surrounding communities as well, so if you are from one of those communities that have Pennsylvania American Water servicing your sewage bill, you are welcome to sign as well!
