Demand NYC Set Safety Standards for Viral Pop-Up Crowds
The Issue
Right now, the Harry Styles “Together Together” pop-up in the East Village is drawing huge crowds of excited fans, highlighting both the incredible enthusiasm these experiences can generate and the need for stronger crowd-management support for NYC’s growing pop-up culture.
Lines have stretched around the block, with barricades surrounding the sidewalk and large crowds gathering throughout the area. Nearby businesses and residents have also experienced disruptions as fans arrive to be part of the experience.
And this isn’t about blaming any brand, event, or organizer. We love seeing and sharing exciting pop-ups, celebrity activations, and immersive experiences come to New York City. They bring energy to neighborhoods, give fans memorable experiences, and are a huge part of what makes NYC such an exciting place to live and visit.
But as these events continue to grow, the city and event industry need to work together to make sure everyone has the guidance and support needed to safely manage the crowds they can attract.
We're calling on NYC officials, pop-up organizers, brands, venues, and event producers to develop clearer crowd-management guidelines and resources for high-demand events. That could include tools like timed entry, advance reservations, virtual queues, clearly managed lines, adequate trained staff, and city guidance on keeping sidewalks and streets accessible and safe.
Fans shouldn't have to choose between being part of an exciting NYC experience and feeling safe while attending it. And neighborhoods shouldn't have to shoulder the impact alone.
We want NYC to continue being a destination for the pop-ups, activations, and experiences people can't wait to line up for. Let's give organizers the guidance and support they need to make these events safe, successful, and enjoyable for everyone.
Sign the petition and help us make NYC's pop-up culture safer, more organized, and ready for the crowds it inspires.
